Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. No pressure. No follow up. No charge.

Alpha includes food, a short talk and a discussion at the end where you can share your thoughts.
Alpha really is for anyone who's curious. The talks are designed to encourage debate and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, honest and informal environment.

All Alpha activities are held in Christ Methodist Church typically on Fridays evenings.
Look out for our next run of the course at our event page.

Alpha Marriage Course

What is the Marriage Course?

A seven-session course set in a fantastic atmosphere. You will enjoy a candle lit meal, coffee or tea and dessert at a romantic table for two while listening to practical talks that are informative and fun.  There is never any group work and you will never be asked to share anything about your relationship with anyone other than your partner.  The course was developed by Nicky and Sila Lee. They have been married for over 20 years and have four children.

Why do the course?

  • Regular check-ups help a car run smoothly and reduce the risk of breakdown.
  • The best sports professionals spend hours being coached and perfecting their technique.
  • The greatest achievements in life take practice, training and dedication.

Session 1: Course Introduction

Session 2: Building Strong Foundations – helps couples to look at their lifestyles and its effect upon their marriage, and to discover more about each other’s needs and desires – particularly on an emotional level.

Session 3: The Art of Communication – Listening is a vital skill for a strong marriage. In this session, couples practice communicating their feelings and listening effectively to one another.

Session 4: Resolving Conflict – how couples can increase their intimacy by expressing appreciation to each other, recognising their differences, learning to negotiate disagreements and praying for each other.

Session 5: The Power of Forgiveness – addresses the ways we will inevitably have hurt each other and how to resolve these so we don’t create a backlog of anger and resentment. The session also looks at the process of healing through identifying the hurt, saying sorry and forgiving.

Session 6: The Impact of Family: Past & Present – helps couples recognize how their family backgrounds affects the way they relate to each other. They also consider how to build a good and healthy relationship with their parents, in-laws and wider family, and how hurt from childhood can be healed.

Session 7: Good Sex – sexual intimacy needs to be developed and worked at. It isn’t just the icing on the cake; it’s a vital ingredient of the cake itself. In this session, couples are encouraged to talk about their sexual relationship and to recognize where they need to make changes.

Session 8: Love in Action – looks at five ways of expressing love, through words, time, touch, presents and actions. Couples discover which expression of love is most important for their partner and how to put this into practice.
